　Modern art of Taiwan was found burgeoning during the times of Japanese colonization period, and by the first batch of artists who studied overseas had returned they had brought different artistic thoughts and creation skills other than Chinese traditions, which had made an impact on traditional culture of Taiwan and western culture. It was turning over a new leaf for fine arts history of Taiwan. Most of these pioneers of modern art of Taiwan were from Taichung City, and though most of the pioneers are aged or withered their contributions should always been honored and respected by the young generations. In order to render tribute and record the contributions of these pioneers to the development of fine arts of Taiwan, Taichung City Seaport Art Center has made use of existing space, and begun to organize “The Museum of Artist Archive of Taichung City” (hereinafter referred to as the Museum) since 1999, and it was established according to “The guidance and assistance in county and city theme exhibition halls to establish and enrich the collections of cultural and historical relics plan” of the Ministry of Culture. On November 4th, 2001 the Museum has started to operate. As we are working against clock, we strive to collect the creation belief and audio-visual literatures of preceding artists, and at the same time the Museum is working hard to carry out information recording of contemporary and mainstream artistic workers, in the hope that we can keep the imprints of steps done with the fine arts development of Taiwan.

The main space of the Taichung City Artists Archive was transformed into a children's art education space in 2020.This space is expected to become a local children's art promotion base.
